Hey all, another American bashing moment took place in the words used by President Barack Obama in his speech in Cairo. He used this forum to advocate for a new beginning between Islam and America. The question remains when did a religious sect, a cultural group, or even a community of individuals get separated from the rest of America?
I am infuriated beyond beliefs with this speech. Americans have never displayed any hatred towards Islam, nor have we ever treated Muslims as outcast of American culture at any point. We have only demanded retribution from the extremist who highjacked a religion to excuse their actions of murdering innocent lives. The President had no right to imply that the response to 9/11 somehow tarnished the relations of this country with Islamic countries. They were already damaged beyond repair due to our continued alliance with Israel. No American needs to apologize for destroying terrorist’s havens, nor for the killings of anyone who supports the destruction of the West through means of suicide bombings or any other barbaric tactic. How much progress has Obama and his administration made so far by being nice to Iran?
It is a fact that in the United States individuals have always regardless of religion had the right to worship whoever they like. This same freedom doesn’t exist in countries under Shira or Islamic law. This freedom originally found in the first Amendment of the United States Constitution is the same document Obama tramples on daily without a second thought.
The President seems a bit more willing to bring up his Muslim roots now that he is in the White House. During his speech in Cairo he quoted from the Koran on several occasions. He did not quote from the Holy book he used in his oath to office. He also neglected to quote from the Torah when speaking to the Israelis earlier this week. Last year on the campaign trail if anyone dared to inquire about his father’s religion or any of his ties to Islam they were automatically attacked for calling him a Muslim. After the McCain campaign called him by his middle name which had never happened before he defended himself by imploring smearing remarks he said “You know, ‘he’s not patriotic enough, he’s got a funny name,’ you know, ‘he doesn’t look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills.” A clear indication of how much he wanted to distance himself from any possible association to Islam. Yet this morning he said "Much has been made of the fact that an African-American with the name Barack Hussein Obama could be elected president,” Why does he feel free to disregard those Muslim ties associated with his name now?
Let’s clarify and question some of the statements made by the President in his address to Islam. One of the goals of the speech was to note how we are one of the largest Muslim countries in the world. Correction we are not. One of the largest Muslim countries in the world. The United States has a Judeo Christian foundation evident in our criminal justice system as well as our Constitution. The US. Government doesn’t have an accurate estimate of how many Muslims reside in the United States as the Census Bureau doesn’t account for religious affiliation in the census, but some Islamic organizations such as CAIR estimate that at the most only 4% of the country’s entire population is comprised by Muslims. Most estimates have the Muslim community at 5 to 6 million people though. If Obama’s estimate of 1 billion Muslim’s in the world is accurate, then his math skills are quite faulty since 6 or even 12 million people out of 1 billion isn’t that many. Obama expressed his usual rhetoric of apologetic politics by saying "This can be an initial step for removing misconceptions between world of Islam and the West,” He explained how Muslim countries have been oppressed by the West through the use of different methods including colonialism, the Cold War, etc. He failed to recognize the sacrifice American and “western” troops made to save the predominant Islamic country of Kuwait in 1991 in the Gulf War. He failed to mention how American and “western” troops fought to liberate Kosovo a predominantly Islamic country. Also, he failed to mention how American blood along with allied blood was shed to help liberate Islamic countries in World War II since today is the anniversary of D-Day. Instead he chose to focus on his idea of how in his own mind America should feel about Muslim and Islamic countries. Why didn’t he mention the lack of rights of most women in Islamic countries, the lack of religious tolerance in countries like Egypt, the blood shed caused by those terrorist who have highjacked certain sects of Islam, the oppression of free speech in Islamic countries, etc. His speech writers probably forgot to include this though. He didn’t even address the greatness of the United States when it comes to religious tolerance, religious freedoms, nor our pain and suffering at the hands of some Muslim radicals. Don’t you love how the guy who lives in the White House has so far chosen to bash his own country rather than praiseing it? Maybe if he thinks about it enough he’ll realize that he wouldn’t be President of any of those Islamic countries since they wouldn’t tolerate his load of hogwash. James.
